It’s official : Mini-display port is proprietary
December 2nd, 2008
There was some buzz around the new Display Port standard and the Mini Display Port found on the new Mac laptops: are they standard or proprietary, who will support it, how to find an adapter, …
Now that Apple is offering a limited license for the Mini Display Port, is it official, the Mini Display Port is not a standard, it is proprietary development from Apple, owned by Apple, that use “Display Port” name to try to hide it’s proprietary standard.
After the iPod connector, the power connector of it’s laptops, now it’s the video output that is proprietay, non-standard and subject to license and eventually license fees for any use!
